AFSCME endorses Buckler for Ohio’s 90th

Updated: Aug 3, 2018

After carefully reviewing the candidates, the AFSCME Ohio Council 8 and Retiree Chapter 1184 have publicly endorsed Democrat candidate Adrienne Buckler for the Ohio House of Representatives, 90th District.

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) is the largest trade union of public employees in the United States. AFSCME Council 8 is the union for Ohio’s municipal, county and regional authorities, schools, universities, hospitals, and non-profit workers. Representing more than 37,000 active public and private sector workers and more than 30,000 retirees, Council 8 is Ohio’s premier public employee union.

In its official letter of endorsement, AFSCME wrote, “Public services and the dedicated employees who provide them are the foundation of a viable and vibrant state and the local communities within it. AFSCME Ohio Council 8 is proud to represent these individuals and we are certain you are as well. The endorsement of your candidacy reflects your commitment to our shared values and concerns.”

Buckler is active in her community as a board member for the SOLACE organization, a volunteer Legal Advisor for Mock Trial at Valley High School, and she volunteers her legal skills to a local legal clinic by providing legal assistance to low-income individuals. She has also volunteered with the Scioto County Special Olympics teams, as well as worked directly with students of the STAR Workshop in Portsmouth.

As a practicing attorney in Portsmouth, Ohio, Buckler is experienced in Ohio law and has made a career of representing others. Now she hopes to represent her entire district as State Representative, and says she will fight for the betterment of our area.

“I am so proud of this endorsement,” Buckler said. “I am proud to support and protect collective bargaining for public employees. Additionally, I will fight against any outsourcing of public service jobs,” Buckler said.

Ohio’s 90th House District encompasses Scioto and Adams counties, and a portion of Lawrence County, including more than 125,000 residents. It was famously once held by the Democrat Ohio Speaker of the House and champion of Scioto County Vern Riffe Jr.

The Ohio General Election is Nov. 6, 2018, and the voter registration deadline is Oct. 9, 2018.
